Enlisting in 8 hours time. I've never been this anxious... It's almost like I'm a new father expecting my baby. Yeah, my life is never gonna be the same it was before. But it's not all gonna be baddd; for one I'd have to ditch my childish antics! HAHA admittedly, it won't be that easy to accomplish. But I'd try!

By the same token, I'm afraid of changes that would leave no stone unturned. Upsetting the status quo would leave me quite upset, to be frank. Relationships would suffer but it won't be sacrificed. Shucks.. Thank God for that. It would make easy amendment. *crosses fingers*

Here's something I wrote in a letter to a friend and I quite like it, so i've decided to include it here as well!

Sometimes we drift, we may go our separate ways in pursuit of life and dreams. But the beauty of it all, is growing separately but never growing apart..

Don't miss me too much yeah? It's only 2 weeks ;)

What does marriage mean to you?

Or rather, what does commitment mean to you?
For example, I don't believe in divorce. Neither do I throw in the towel easily.

I believe that as long as both parties are willing, things can always work out. If you were together once, it means that you once had something in common. And no matter how bad things were, it can always be resolved.

I am the sort of person who doesn't forget a friend. Once my friend, always my friend.
I know, I make it sound like a death sentence.

But still. It would take overwhelmingly startling evidence that you're despicable, before I give up on someone I know.

I mean, I would help my friend drag a dead body to dispose of if she explained the reason behind why she did it. In my eyes, my friends will always get the benefit of the doubt with me.

I will never forgo a friend.
I think it may be because I grew up with so little familial influence, that my friends inevitably became my family instead. I sought comfort from them, I derived who I became from aspects of my friends that I thought good. I have a little bit of all my friends in me.

In other words, I am one of a kind. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Okay, no, I did not go one big round just to praise myself.

What I want to point out is, that I don't give up easily. I'll always make an effort to reconcile with the people I care about...

Unless they make me despise them la, that's a different story.

So you know, I know it's different for everyone. Are you the kind who would let a friend drift away, just because you're too lazy to pop a call, or to send a text?

Because if you are, I hope you make more of an effort if and when you choose to have a life with someone else.

Thank you for being my friend :)

My gaze wanders to the clock ticking above, my eyes fixated on the movement of the hands. Every second ticking away fascinates me... I'm still in a daze after having awoke from a 22-23hour "nap".

The fact that Saltshakers Camp 2008 ended 32 hours ago hasn't quite hit home yet. The Committee has worked hard and I'm glad to say that the we hadn't worked for naught; our work in the past weeks leading up to the Fifth of December culminated in a final brouhaha on the final night!(I'm refering to the TalentNite haha) Thank you my sub-committee, the unsung heroes of the camp! I love you girls(insert lip action here* MUACKS! I hope I didn't steal your first kiss, ladies) Kudos to my wonderful campers and your great support and cheers! Sure, you guys may have complained about this and that - Don't think I don't know, in fact I also complained along with you guys =p

Eh I don't know what else to say la, still quite blur-blur. Uh you guys rock?
I sincerely hope this camp was THE CAMP OF THE YEAR for each and every one of you; and for veteran campers: Hope it lived up to the hype of R2ME2 Camp in 2005! If it didn't then not to worry, we would do an even better one next year!
The tsunami of words shall cease here, not!

Time.

It flies by so quickly.. but have you ever wondered how it even started? Who was that one person who came up with the '24 hours theory' when the entire globe was still in nascence. Whoever it was, I think it is a feat that is highly laudable.

Think back to the days where people used the sundial.. or even earlier when all that was different was the brightness of day and the darkness of night. How in the world did these people differentiate day from night?

Every continent of the world has different time zones. Who was it that determined Asia to be ahead of the countries in the West by a few hours? Ultimately, who decided that a single day has approximately 24 hours?

I doubt we’ll ever be able to fully comprehend the cycle and logic behind the essence of time. Too complex it may be, that we won't even bother baffling ourselves for the answer. But it remains fascinating nonetheless.

They say “time flies when you’re having fun”.. not entirely. We’re just so caught up in the moment of excitement that we become oblivious to everything else around us, just as it is when we’re bored to tears.. Time seem to torture our minds by coming to a standstill.

There is however, one single answer I seek for a debatable question..

Will time travel ever be possible?

If I ever had a superpower, I’d want one which would enable me to stop and travel through time at will (like Nakamura from HEROES). I swear it'd be totally awesome man!

Hmm anyway, after writing all these.. I honestly don’t have a clue as to what I'm trying to convey. It's just yet another random thoughts vomit; or how a certain Miss Shirley Chia would diagnose my post as verbal diarrhoea. Oh well, but you know I guess ultimately, although we don’t have the power to turn back time and undo the wrongs.. we do have the power in our hands to create and shape our own future.

And life’s really about cherishing the moments in life that will forever be etched in our hearts and minds.
Remember: It's not about the number of breaths you take, but really...the moments that take your breath away!

Have you ever been in a conversation with a new acquaintance, and after a few moments, start thinking to yourself: ‘Oh my gosh, this person and I think alike! It's as if we’re on the same wavelength!’. It’s such an awesome feeling finding someone like that, almost like falling in love.

Lovers call it “chemistry”. New friends will say it's “instant rapport”. Business people might term it “a meeting of minds”. Yet, it’s essentially the same magic, that sudden sense of warmth and closeness and that strong sensation as if you’ve been friends with this new stranger for a really long time.

Which made me think...

Remember how when we were children, making friends always seemed easy? Most of the kids we grew up and played with knew nothing much about the world yet, and thus all of us were practically on the same wavelength in our own sacred world, with only the interest of having fun with the people around.

Then as the years went by, we grew older, some of us even moved to new environments. And through those transitions in life, our backgrounds, experiences, goals, lifestyles.. everything became diverse. Each and every one of us developed a different notion of life, thus falling off the wavelength we shared in our childhood.

Now every time we meet someone new, we subconsciously have preconceived thoughts about them even before we get to know them. And chances always are, if two people don’t meet eye-to-eye, don’t share the same hobbies and interests, or in other words, are on completely different wavelengths.. that’s as far as the relationship goes.

Wouldn’t it be just great to have a magic surfboard that can help us hop right on the wavelength of any new individual we meet in our daily lives? Not to pre-judge them and distant ourselves just because of differences, but instead learn to accept new perspectives and make an effort to ride on that wavelength of another.

Just like when we were kids, where we could easily 'surf' with any new acquaintance.. as a friend.

Now through my short stint at an Agri-food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore Roadshow, I've come to know and grown close to some people whom I'd never thought of befriending. Bonds have been forged with a group of roadshow mates whom I rather affectionately call the cheenapok gang; it's amazing how everyone of us managed to fit in comfortably despite language medium differences.

Here's a shoutout to Junhao, Mengwee, Sarah, Joanna and last but not least Shirley. The awesome-st, sweet young lady ever. I'm only saying this 'cause I know you're gonna read it. Haha. Now it's time to keep to your side of the bargain! AND tomorrow's dinner your treat right ;)

Friends drift apart all the time. Groups of friends you might have known from childhood, secondary school, college or universities will dwindle over time, for varied reasons. You could be the “best of friends”, sharing personal secrets and hanging out almost everyday but become complete strangers the very next moment..

People change, situations occur.

Sometimes, some friendships are really not meant to last. I personally don’t believe in the whole “best friends forever” nonsense. It’s a childish fantasy which one will only look back on with regret when things don’t work out..

I don’t believe in ever doing a kiss-and-tell either. Even though friendships may not always have a happy ending (due to a multitude of reasons), their past values should never be negated.

Occurrences may happen during the course of friendship and people might eventually drift apart, but the secrets and memories shared should always remain special. It's stupid to deny the value of a friendship just because it ends. More importantly, one should never torch or rudely disrespect another just because they no longer fit into your current life.

Friendship is really just one of those indefinable words that mean different things to different people at different times. Most friendships are transient, they come and go with time and place..

But to a large extent, we are a sum total of all our friendships, past and present, mixed together with our own peculiar personality. Every single person we’ve met along the way, no matter how long we’ve known them or how much we’ve shared during those times, have definitely made us who we are today in little ways we might not even have realized ourselves..

A day will come though, where you find yourself less than eager to find time for that friend or even your other half (if you’re in a relationship). When you ever feel that way, it’s an indication of what is about to end..

A very simple explanation is this.. people change, priorities change, age changes, we ourselves change. All plays have an ending, some plays are short, some are a bit longer, but every one of them has to let the curtains fall eventually..

We meet new people everyday. Acquaintances may turn into friends, friends may turn into strangers. But all these people are there for a reason.. they give meaning and often leave an impact at various stages of our lives..

Friendships may not always last forever.
But it’s these memories that do.

I'm starting to get very detached from friends. Things aren’t quite the same way it once was anymore, slowly we’re all going on to live our own separate lives. A life that doesn’t include either one of us in it. Or maybe its just me.

I miss my friends, I miss my classmates, I miss the buddies I played soccer with, I miss those random people I’d always bump into at school and greet with a hi.. I miss you! But somehow, I just can't seem to bring myself to save what we’re about to lose.

Rarely do I ever express the way I truly feel about matters closest to my heart. I can openly share my opinions (In fact, I'm known to be conceitedly dogmatic!) but I'm extremely reserved emotionally.. Well the truth is, it saddens me how we’re drifting. I don’t feel a part or connected anymore..

It's like our relationship is now merely a status. But I’ve only myself to blame. Never have I really taken much of an effort to reciprocate your genuine attempts and initiative at maintaining the friendship.

In a way, I’ve always taken it for granted. I’ve never been that friend to you the way you’ve been for me. You might have already given up trying to salvage whatever bond we once shared, you might have moved on with a new purpose, new friends, new life.

I am ashamed to say I lack the courage to do anything about matters. But to you, my friend.. I just want to say that I really miss the times we spent and the memories we had together. And yes, I am writing this to you.

All of you.

It really was a period of self discovery, a much needed wake up call and a timely reminder that I have my life to live ahead of me. I dare say I've come out of the B&W camp a lot more mature than I ever was..

Also, for the very first time.. I actually got to know people.

Now you might think it strange, but the reality is.. I'd always try to avoid social interaction as much as possible. I don’t like socializing very much. I did make an effort to initiate conversations this time though.. and I was pleasantly surprised.

Every opportunity of time spent with these new acquaintances slowly developed into friendships. It's still early days, but I have this strong feeling that special bonds will be shared with a couple of them.

I also had a chance to catch up with many other friends and we grew somewhat closer through the days and nights spent together. By the way, if I ever (offer to) hug you, its my way of saying.. "You're my friend and I care about you". My hugs are rare, but they are always heartfelt.

Memories aplenty, of which all will be cherished. From getting dirty and having icky smelly water poured liberally on your sandy back, those episodes of ghost story telling before the night walk, scaring people then getting scared back :s AJ Timothy's get-up freaked me out!, eating, laughing, the impromptu mass-bonding session, the cheers, drinking cups after cups of hydrating fluids, the teamwork, the friendships, the unforgettable moments and who could ever forget: WATER'S Light-stick Massacre during the final tribal game! =D

Rather than wait till I get EVERY PICTURE TAKEN during the recent Nationals Track & Field meet, I've decided to put up those few pictures I managed to snap using my phone and someone else digital camera. Though it may not beat the Beijing Olympics in terms of media coverage, hype and sporting standards.. This is after all the Choa Chu Kang Olympics(since it's held in CCK stadium right...?)
Don't expect much, I'm not even considered amateur when it comes to photography!
