Technology & Love
I was text messaging my classmate two tables away when something occurred to me. Technology really has come a long way and so have we. Possessing a hand phone used to be such a prestige and cool factor. Come friday, even a 8 year old kid would be a proud owner of a spanking new I-Phone! And you asked why am I not surprised...
I remember the days back in primary school when the whole class would start a ‘mass conversation chat room’ using a single piece of paper that would be passed around from person to person. Obviously it was extremely risky, and the consequence faced during times when the paper was intercepted by the teacher is still clearly etched in my memory.
There was even one occasion when a classmate and I had a little thing for each other. We’d always be passing ‘secret love letters’ to one another via the people in between. Nothing materialized eventually, it was just silly infatuations of stupid juveniles.. but those were the fun days.
It's a different feeling reading a hand written note compared to computerized text. We’ve all become so electronic in this modern world. MSN and the likes have obviously benefited us in ways that we keep in touch and communicate with our friends.. But it does have its drawbacks.
Without realizing, we’re all becoming like robots; automated and devoid of emotions. There’s just that something special about the personal human touch and interaction that no form of advanced technology will ever be able to substitute for. Yet, we’re slowly but surely conforming to the cyber touch.
But anyway speaking of old time scandals bring me to the reality of my current (lack of) love life. The current situation is.. I like (d) a girl but the feelings weren’t mutual. That was fine, I’m not the kind who believes in love at first sight anyway..
So then I was in the process of getting to know her.. I didn’t know if she was playing hard to get or just being a bloody flirt. There was something about her though, that made me want to try things differently.. you know, the feeling of willing to do things you’d normally not do..
In the end, it turned out that she wasn’t that special ‘her’ after all.
Heartbreak moment came when I realized that she might have been playing me all these while and that she really was just interested in some other friend of mine. Well maybe it's some form of retribution for all the times I’ve indirectly and unintentionally hurt girls whom I didn’t feel the same affection towards..
Love is complex. It can hurt... it can make you feel on top of the world. It makes you fly or it can break your wings. It can and will put you through experiences and emotions you’ve never felt before. But you can never define what love truly is.
'Cause it’s not meant to be explained. It’s meant to be felt.
Farewell, Mister Moel-Jo
I hope you wouldn't have any use for the stuff you received after the briefing in camp yesterday :p

It really was a period of self discovery, a much needed wake up call and a timely reminder that I have my life to live ahead of me. I dare say I've come out of the B&W camp a lot more mature than I ever was..
Also, for the very first time.. I actually got to know people.
Now you might think it strange, but the reality is.. I'd always try to avoid social interaction as much as possible. I don’t like socializing very much. I did make an effort to initiate conversations this time though.. and I was pleasantly surprised.
Every opportunity of time spent with these new acquaintances slowly developed into friendships. It's still early days, but I have this strong feeling that special bonds will be shared with a couple of them.
I also had a chance to catch up with many other friends and we grew somewhat closer through the days and nights spent together. By the way, if I ever (offer to) hug you, its my way of saying.. "You're my friend and I care about you". My hugs are rare, but they are always heartfelt.
Memories aplenty, of which all will be cherished. From getting dirty and having icky smelly water poured liberally on your sandy back, those episodes of ghost story telling before the night walk, scaring people then getting scared back :s AJ Timothy's get-up freaked me out!, eating, laughing, the impromptu mass-bonding session, the cheers, drinking cups after cups of hydrating fluids, the teamwork, the friendships, the unforgettable moments and who could ever forget: WATER'S Light-stick Massacre during the final tribal game! =D
Rather than wait till I get EVERY PICTURE TAKEN during the recent Nationals Track & Field meet, I've decided to put up those few pictures I managed to snap using my phone and someone else digital camera. Though it may not beat the Beijing Olympics in terms of media coverage, hype and sporting standards.. This is after all the Choa Chu Kang Olympics(since it's held in CCK stadium right...?)
